Volunteer AcknowledgmentsBookclub would not be possible without the dedication and excellence of our rather large volunteer base. These young people reconfigure homework schedules, part-time jobs and extra-curricular activities to give us their creative energy, goodwill and brute strength. We are deeply grateful to the following: Sarah Hobbs - Full time Summer Camp Volunteer
When Sarah was very little, she attended one of Christianne’s programs at her local community center, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, however, she lost contact, and had no idea of the Lyceum’s existence until last year, when she learned, through her school councilor, about a volunteer opportunity there. Since then, she has very much enjoyed assisting Susan or Christianne at the Lyceum, and never fails to be surprised by the children’s creativity. Sarah is currently looking forward to starting grade eleven in the fall at Byng Arts Mini School, where she is enrolled in the Literary Arts Program. Besides reading and writing, her other interests include piano, jazz dance, and biking. Kaylie Higgs - Volunteer for Preschool Program
Hi! My name is Kaylie Higgs. I am thirteen years old and have known Christianne and participated in her book clubs since I was a preschooler (almost as long as I can remember)! This is one of the reasons I’m so excited about the opportunity to work at the Lyceum with younger children who are developing the same love for books, reading, and art that I have. Currently, I am home schooled and keep a busy, yet balanced life, pursuing my interests in violin, guitar, art, Irish dancing, yoga, ski racing, musical theatre, taekwondo and photography. Other things I enjoy include learning natural horsemanship, weaving, forest walks with my two dogs, and going on imaginative ‘journeys’ with the preschoolers I work with each Wednesday afternoon.
Cameryn Higgs - Volunteer for Preschool Program
My name is Cameryn Higgs. I am eleven and I love working with the preschoolers at the Lyceum! I especially love getting to know them and helping them respond to stories with a variety of projects and crafts. As a reader, my favourite books belong to the genre of ‘historical fiction’ since you get to adventure into different worlds and time periods with them. In addition to my passion for reading and imagination, I bring to the Lyceum my experiences in home schooling and my personal interests in Irish dancing, music (violin & guitar), taekwondo, yoga, musical theatre, art, photography, weaving, horsemanship, animals, and skiing. For me, the Lyceum is a welcoming and comfortable place to learn and I am thankful for the time I am able to spend there each week!
