Preschool Literature and Art: Bugs and snails in books!

Books are selected to engage the preschooler’s sense of humour and natural interest in the world of bugs! We will be taking daily trips into the outdoors where children will be encouraged to observe closely their insect neighbours, while developing a respect for each insect’s place in the ecological cycle of life. Children will have the opportunity to work with a variety of media to help them explore ways of representing their observations. Both abstract and realistic expressions will be embraced and supported.
* If your child has a fear of creepy crawlies, do not worry as the stories we share will help break down stereotypical anxieties.
Dates: June 9 - 13 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Cost: $120.00 + gst

Kindergarten Literature and Art: Everyone is an artist!

During this week, children will explore their identity as an artist through literature and relevant art experiences. Select pieces of literature will be used to expose children to the varying struggles and celebrations artists experience in their journey to express their passions. Parallels will be drawn to the personal challenges each child experiences in expressing his/her own ideas, dreams and unique style. We will encourage children to approach a melange of artistic expressions with an open and curious mind. Children will have the opportunity to work with a variety of paints, collage and sculpting materials, etc. We will display the children’s work as the week evolves and will share documentation of this process by email.
Dates: June 16 - 20 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Cost: $120.00 + gst

Homeschoolers - Developing Global Perspectives

Week One - Exploring issues of conservation and preservation: We will read select pieces of literature that highlight issues relating to conservation and preservation. The books are sophisticated picture books and can be built up or simplified in order to match the diverse needs of the group. Art projects using a wide variety of media (ie. Sculpey, beading, painting and collage) will stem from the themes discussed in the books. Opportunities to extend learning back to the home will be explored.
Week Two - Reflecting on conflicts at home and farther a field: We will read select pieces of literature that deal with conflict around the world. Each day will be spent dealing with a particular conflict and also opportunities to explore feelings further through discourse, story-telling and art explorations. Again, the nature of the books shared means that children of many ages can participate at their own level. Opportunities to extend learning at home will be explored.
