Discover the abundance of books aimed at children aged 2-3 years. Engage in a "circle time" experience with story props, puppets, songs and crafts to explore emergent literacy and language development in your child.
Each week parents will experience a series of thematically integrated books with strategies for promoting a healthy foundation for your child's journey with literacy. How do you add voice to story? How do you animate the characters? How do you help young children feel the suspense of a story as it unfolds? How do you help them begin to identify with characters in the books and tales? These are the key components in encouraging love of literature in your child. This class will address these questions with tried and tested approaches that you can individualize with your own child.
A light snack and juice will be provided for the children. Tea and coffee are available for parents and a change table is provided for your convenience.

For the youngest members of the Lyceum community, we have planned a program of story, finger-rhyme, song and art exploration!
As an extra treat, we will lead parents and little ones through a series of joint stretches. The objective of this class is to introduce children to short bursts of activity to accommodate growing attention spans.

Exciting books - expertly dramatized with puppets, props, and felt board - transport your child to a place where imagination intersects with reality. Relevant and age-appropriate art projects support themes explored in the stories.
Christianne's expertise in children's literature ensures your child's exposure to new and little-known works that will excite and challenge them. These are not the books you typically find in a school or library program; they are selected to provoke analogies to real-life situations and encourage your child to make connections between story and lived experience in facing issues such as sibling rivalry, making friends, learning how to understand ownership while learning how to share materials, adult time with others, and managing their desire for independence. Each class will focus on a different art or craft project where youngsters will work with materials that challenge their understanding, encourage creativity, and develop their fine motor skills.
Note: This program is designed for children to participate independently. Parents are free to drop off their children; however, this is a stage when children often experience some level of separation anxiety. In recognition of this, parents are welcome to stay in the background during the program, until their little ones no longer need their presence.
A light snack and juice will be provided. Please advise us of any allergies or food sensitivities.

Expose your child to literature that will stretch her mind and provide deeper thinking about the world they live in. Books that challenge binary thinking encourage them to explore "possibilities" while high-end art projects stretch their creativity.
Each week we follow story characters who take on personal challenges and overcome them. Sophisticated books with involved storylines allow your child to engage fully with the literature choices for this program; longer books may extend over two classes. Using this framework of personal challenge, we explore a collection of socially-relevant themes such as looking after the environment, animal rights, preservation and conservation, developing empathy for the position of others, and exploring cultural diversity through concerns that are universally relevant.
Students will be exposed to a wide variety of art media such as polymer clay, shrink art, watercolour and acrylic paint, collage, needlework, and beading.
Note: Morning and afternoon classes are offered to mesh with your child's kindergarten program. A light snack and juice will be provided. Please advise us of any allergies or food sensitivities.

Participants will engage in a vocabulary game, discussion and craft activity inspired by the chosen book. Christianne will end the session by sharing a relevant story with the group. (back to top)
