In this workshop Dr. Christianne Hayward will introduce sophisticated picture books that can be used to kindle family stories, followed by some writing and visual art provocations that will help your students to get their own stories down on paper. A variety of strategies will be presented to cover the broad age spread.

2) Embracing Diversity is About Respecting Choice

A Workshop for Teachers of Kindergarten to Grade 5

Often, when teaching our students about diversity, we touch on topics of ethnicity and culture, but fail to incorporate basic differences such as having a different opinion, or choosing a different course of action. In this workshop teachers will be given the opportunity to explore the concept of diversity as it relates to respecting individual choice. Literature that provokes high-level discussions about the challenge and power of embracing diversity will be shared.
