Professional Development Workshop Series
A series of inspiring presentations within an open, pleasant, environment where teachers can relax and enjoy the learning process. Participants can anticipate practical handouts and an exposure to an outstanding array of resources.
At each session, participants can anticipate:
- An inspiring presentation
- A practical handout
- Exposure to an outstanding array of resources
- The opportunity to share ideas and network with colleagues
- A light dinner.
Select books used in this workshop will be available for purchase by participants. Participants will receive a certificate to recognize their attendance at a Professional Development Event.
Sessions will start at 6:30 with a light dinner and browsing of materials. The formal part of the workshop will start at 7:00 and conclude at 9:30 PM.

Fall Seminar: Story Telling Workshop
A seminar for educators of young children (ECE - Grade 3).
Highlights of this workshop will include:
- Discussion regarding when to augment stories beyond their original format
- Differentiating story-telling from story-reading
- Using props tp bring stories to life
- Opportunity for participants to make the props for at least one story to take away.

Fall Seminar: Using Sophisticated Picture Books to Set the Stage for Literature Circles
A seminar for educators of intermediate and middle school youth
. Highlights of this workshop will include:
- Demonstration of several picture book and novel pairings
- Modeling how to set the context for a particular issue using picture books with "savvy pre-teens and teens"
- Exposure to literature circle sets that support social responsibility themes.

Fall Seminar: Graphic Novels: Separating the Wheat from the Chaff
A seminar for educators of middle and high school youth.
Highlights of this workshop will include:
- A brief history of graphic novels and manga
- Discussion of why graphic novels deserve shelf space in every classroom
- Ways to link graphic novels to social responsibility themes in the social studies curriculum
- Exploration of literary elements found in graphic novels such as irony, metaphor, symbolism and imagery.
