October 22, 2010 • 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, followed by a trip to Kidsbooks • $60
Before voice or word choice, good writing begins with words on a page. Often getting our students past their initial protests of, “We don't know what to write about!” presents our biggest challenge. In this full-day workshop, educator Dr. Christianne Hayward and poet Laura Farina will give you the theory and tools you need to avoid blank notebooks and blank stares. Using tested techniques from the successful children's writing workshops at The Lyceum, they will show you to how to turn favourite books into writing prompts that are guaranteed to get your students’ pens flying. Then, with a nod to the 6 +1 Traits of Writing, they will walk you through the workshopping, editing and publishing process.
* specific examples will be given to tailor this workshop for each grade level
