Walk, Shoot and Jot
July 25 - 29 (5 afternoons)
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Ages: 9 - 12 • $225 + hst (3 hrs/class)
We’ll
venture out into the area surrounding the Lyceum with notebooks and
cameras in hand, capturing the usual and unusual that we observe in our
travels. With these fragments, we’ll return to the Lyceum to turn them
into more polished pieces. Our final product will be an accordion book
comprised of photos and text that captures the extraordinary in our
community. Those students with access to a digital camera are asked to
bring it with them to the camp.
As You Like It and Glass Painting
July 25 - 29 (5 evenings)
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Ages: 9 - 12 • $235 + hst (3 hrs/class)
Students
in this class will engage in an in-depth study of As You Like It,
playing at Bard on the Beach this season. We will start with the basic
storyline and progress to scenes in Shakespearean English. Using faux
lead and ink techniques, students will create four scenes from the play
on glass squares that can be used as coasters. Students and parents may
choose to join us for a matinee performance at Vancouver’s Bard on the
Beach at the end of the camp.
Beading and Short Stories
August 2 - 5 (4 evenings)
Tues.-Thurs. 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm; Fri. 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Please note: class will include a potluck supper on Friday
Ages: 9 - 12 • $190 + hst (3 hrs/class)
Those looking to hone their skills are invited to join us for a week of beading
with beading expert (and Christianne’s son) Jamil Hayward. He’ll
demonstrate some beading techniques and work one-on-one with
participants to turn their design ideas into finished pieces. All
materials will be supplied, giving everyone the opportunity to fashion
their creations from an extraordinary collection of unique beads and
fixings. As we work, Christianne will share some of her favourite short
stories. Students can expect to take home at least four exceptional
pieces.
Print-Making and Poetry
August 8 - 12 (5 evenings)
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Ages: 9 - 12 • $225 + hst (3 hrs/class)
Two
of our favourite things together at last. We’ll spend part of each day
approaching the writing of poetry from a number of different angles.
Prompts will include everything from an examination of formal poetry
such as sonnets, to spontaneous writing experiments. We’ll look at what
happens when we use unexpected language in our poems, and some of the
differences between traditional and conversational voices. The second
part of each day will be spent learning a variety of print making
techniques. For our final project, each student will create a broadside
that includes his or her favourite poem written during the camp, as well
as a related print.
