Surrealists and Self-Portraits
August 8 - 12 (5 mornings)
9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Ages: 7 - 12 • $235 + hst (3 hrs/class)

Engage in a week of the unexpected as we delve into the surrealist movement. Using freely-associated images and surprising juxtapositions, we’ll find personal symbols that resonate with us.  We’ll dabble in surrealist writing and look at the work of artists such as Frida Kahlo, René Magritte and Salvador Dali for inspiration. Then, we’ll try our hands at our own surrealist-inspired self-portraits using our personal symbols to depict our thoughts and feelings on canvas.

Wear Your Writing
August 8 - 12 (5 afternoons)
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Ages: 7 - 12 • $225 + hst (3 hrs/class)

Expand your personal style and readership at the same time! During this writing workshop, students will create fantastic pieces of writing, take them through the editorial process and then publish them on clothing and accessories - everything from canvas bags to necklaces.  When you wear your writing, everyone who sees you gets to read your work.  A great choice for writing fiends and reluctant writers alike.

The Frames We Use to See
Aug. 29 - Sept. 1 (4 mornings)
9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Ages: 7 - 12• $180 + hst (3 hrs/class)

This camp will focus on the way we see and the frames we use to make meaning.  What is left outside the frame and what is examined more closely?  We’ll share stories about art, such as The Sound of Colours and The Blue Stone, to add depth to our conversations. Our explorations will come together in a collection of smaller frames depicting limited perspectives around a clay model of an eye.

Watercolours by the Water
Aug. 29 - Sept. 1 (4 afternoons)
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Ages: 7 - 12 • $180 + hst (3 hrs/class)

A relaxing week of observation and outdoor adventures, this camp focuses on using watercolours and aquarelles to capture natural landscapes. We’ll begin with an introduction to painting, including stretching watercolour paper and using wash resist techniques. On subsequent days, we’ll pack up our supplies and walk to Jericho Beach where we’ll work to capture the natural beauty of the ocean, ponds and parklands.  At the beginning of each class we’ll read from a novella while students sketch.
