Special Holiday Workshops
The weather’s getting colder, the decorations are going up and that means stories and crafts at the Lyceum! No matter what holiday you celebrate at this time of year, our programs are guaranteed to fill your heart and mind with the magic of December.

Early Childhood
Join us for three days of holiday fun! We’ll share some of our favourite seasonal picture books and crafts. All materials are provided and participants will leave each workshop with their own high quality creation and a list of picture books that are sure to become family favourites.
Preschool (3 - 4 years)
Dates: Dec. 15, 16 and 17
Time: 9:30am to 11:30 am
Cost: $35 a session or $100 for all three
Kindergarten (5 - 6 years)
Date: December 15, 16 and 17
Time: 12:45 pm to 2:45 pm

Holiday Ornaments (6+ years)
Create
beautiful ornaments for your tree or home! Using a variety of media and
quality tools, we’ll create family keepsakes, while listening to
classic seasonal stories. A great way to begin your holidays!

Poetry and Card Making (9+ years)
Laura loves to write poems. Nicole loves to make cards. In the spirit of the holidays they have joined together to bring you an incredible evening of poetry and card-making mayhem. First, Laura will work with participants to capture their holiday words, helping them each create a beautiful poem. Next, Nicole will share the secrets of her stunning cards, teaching the art of paper cuts and pop-ups. To finish, each participant will sew their poem into their cards, creating lovely gifts to send to out-of-town friends and family.Date: December 16 Time: 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm Cost: $40 + GST
Storytelling & Granny Blake’s Famous Toffee Making (12+ years)
The
recipe for Granny Blake’s toffee was brought to Canada 125 years ago by
Christianne’s great grandmother, Amy. People who have tasted this
delicious confection never forget it and always make sure to hang
around a Hayward or a Blake near Christmas! With an hour to stir and an
hour to wrap, there is plenty of time to revel in a story. Participants
can expect to take home a large bag of this famous toffee and a
step-by-step recipe.

Christianne’s Best Holiday Stories: An Event for Families
As the school doors close and the holiday season officially starts, come enjoy an evening of seasonal stories that you don’t often hear. As you
delight in a cup of hot cranberry cider and some cookies, work together
to create a beautiful holiday craft. A great way to unwind as a family
and get into the holiday spirit.
Date: December 18 Time: 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm Cost: $25 individual, $60 for a family
Mosaic Centrepieces for Holiday Tables (12+ years)
Create a tiled mosaic centrepiece for the centre of your holiday table! Each student will be encouraged to design a pattern and choose the appropriate tiles and glass to bring their image to life. A variety of tile cutting techniques will be taught during this all-day workshop. All materials are included and each student will be provided with the tools and safety equipment required to make a centrepiece of exceptional quality. Our mosaic workshops are always popular, so be sure to sign up early!

Beading and Jewellery Making (10+ years)
Do you have some friends you need to make gifts for before Christmas? Join us for a day of beading, both simple and complex. Jamil, Christianne’s son, is an accomplished beader and will be co-teaching this class.All materials will be supplied, giving participants the opportunity to fashion their creations from an extraordinary collection of unique beads and fixings.Date: December 20 Time: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Cost: $60 + GST
Glass Painting (9+ years)
Looking for a special gift for the grandparents? Why not join us for an evening of glass painting? Using basic faux lead and glass ink techniques, each participant will complete a set of four coasters and a glass cookie plate; a unique handmade gift that is sure to be treasured by family or friends.Date: December 20 Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Cost: $50 + GST

Learn to Crochet: A Community Project
Learn a new skill while helping those less fortunate. The day will begin with a quick crochet lesson, after which we will work together to create a blanket to donate to the Triage Shelter. As we work, Christianne will share some inspiring stories about charity and giving during the holiday season. A day guaranteed to inspire, and bring us back to the true meaning of the holidays. The cost of this workshop is for operating costs and supplies only. The Lyceum staff will be donating their time to this project.

Wreath Making (12+ years)
Create a beautiful wreath for your front door! Join Christianne in the relaxed atmosphere of the Lyceum for an evening of crafting that looks (and smells) amazing. Make your door stand out with a stunning combination of evergreen bows, cinnamon sticks and pine cones.

Night Tree Decorating (5 to 10 years)
Join us for a magical Lyceum tradition. Chrisianne will begin the afternoon sharing Night Tree by Eve Bunting, and tell the story of how her family has adapted this story into a treasured yearly custom. We will make our own special natural food ornaments, walk to Jericho Park and create our own beautiful “night trees” - an unexpected gift for local furry and feathered creatures.
